Serene custom neighborhood adjacent to tranquil nature...

My chosen area is located in Cameron Park. Cameron Park Drive, Hacienda and Meder are the streets that outline this area. It is bordered on the south east by Pine Hill Preserve.

There are approximately 300 custom homes in this area. They are between 5-35 years old. The average price per square foot is an average of $135.00 per sq./ft.

The Pine Hill Preserve hosts a collection of eight rare plant species, four of which grow nowhere else in the world! They are under careful watch by volunteer and paid biologists for their endangered species status.

This preserve is  home to birds, rabbits, turkeys, coyotes, deer, snakes and lizards. It is a wonderful place to take a nature walk.

Churches

Political Organization

Once, one of the county's more prominent ranches, this pleasant suburban community features not only lovely oak-shaded neighborhoods, but  also includes a championship golf course and country club, airport, swimming and boating lake, and several shopping centers.

Cameron Park and Shingle Springs are unincorporated communities governed by the El Dorado County Board of Supervisors. The Community Service District provides services such as: Fire and Emergency Services, Administrative Services, CC&R reinforcement, recreational programs, and park facilities. Electricity in the area is provided by PG&E and gas is propane. Water is by El Dorado Irrigation District, and trash collection is by El Dorado Disposal.

The airport is surrounded by a unique neighborhood called Airpark Estates. Here you will find and unusual group of homes adjacent to the airport. The wide streets of this neighborhood leading from the homes to the adjacent taxiway of the airstrip allows those who fly to commute to other cities to leave their homes and return again completely by plane. Many homes have aircraft hangars which house the personal aircraft, allowing resident to commute from home to work entirely by air.

Cameron Park Lake is a man made feature covering approximately 10 acres. The park is a central gathering place for community activities large and small. On the Saturday before the 4th of July, a Firework Extravaganza takes place each year, drawing spectators from all around.

Each September, a world class rib cook-off takes place. It is cleverly named, "Ribstock" and is sanctioned by the Kansas City BBQ Society. It is a fun activity for family and friends to join together for an end of summer get together.

There are four additional parks in the town, as well as the Aquatic Center and Community center. The Aquatic Center and Community Center were completed in 2009, and offer a large variety in recreational classes for all ages.

Why Live Here???

When residents of this area were questioned about what they liked best about living in this area, the most common responses were:

Being able to live with the conveniences of a suburban area with lot sizes big enough to provide privacy from your neighbors.

           The weather!

Close proximity to Sacramento, and Lake Tahoe with easy freeway access.

The Sunsets! This neighborhood is in a hilly location allowing stunning views of the sunsets.

I have lived in Cameron Park for one year, and am continually learning why this community marker was placed.

Charming Cameron Park

Cameron Park is a happy community located in the Northern California Gold County of the Sierra Nevada foothills. It is conveniently located 30 miles east of Sacramento, and 70 miles west of South Lake Tahoe.

Mature Oak trees, Gray Pines,  Redbud trees, as well as manzanita, white sage and numerous wild flowers cover the hills in and around Cameron Park.

The elevation is between 1,200-1,450 feet above sea level. This, conveniently is above the valley fog that can permeate the winter months, and below the snow of the higher foothills. The majority of the topography is hilly, which provides stunning vista views, and picturesque sunsets.

The Native American inhabitants of the area surrounding Cameron Park were Nisenan or Southern Maidu Indians. Grinding rocks and burial mounds serve as glimpses of the past, and are still visible in various locations in and around Cameron Park. These grinding rocks are located in Rasmussen Park.

Gold was discovered in the Coloma Valley along the South Fork of the American River in January 1848, by a miner named James Marshall. This led to an establishment of many gold camps throughout what is now
El Dorado County.

Native Americans, dependent on hunting, gathering and agriculture; became the victims of starvation, as gravel, silt and toxic chemicals from prospecting operations killed fish and destroyed habitats. The Native Americans also succumbed in large numbers to introduced diseases such as smallpox, influenza and measles.

The Pony Express contributed to the continued development of El Dorado County as the gold began to fade.

In 1950 Robert "Larry" Cameron purchased 5,000 acres of  land for ranching. His ranch produced award winning Angus cattle. In 1960 Larry Cameron began selling 5 acre lots.  Today, Cameron Park contains a mix of large ranches, single family homes, apartments and businesses.
